A Message of Hope (January 19, 2011)

I wanted to use the first news story for the site to address concerns that people are having these days about the state of our country and economy. In late 2008, when the economy started to turn sour, voters were looking for hope and change and elected a President that they believed could deliver that change. Two years later, many voters did not like how President Obama was running the country and elected many Republicans to replace Democrats that they believed were in line with many of the President’s policies. I believe concerns over the healthcare bill known as “Obamacare” and a stimulus bill many people believe did not save or create the jobs that the President said that it would lead them to vote that way. This now creates a situation in which Republicans and Democrats must work together. Otherwise, next to nothing will get done over the next couple of years. If that happens, there will likely be a Republican President elected in 2012 and probably create a similar situation that happened between 2001 and 2007 when Republicans had control of the White House, Senate, and House of Representatives (MANY people did not like that situation). There are signs that things are improving for many people and there is hope that businesses will do more hiring this year. Even if the government does not help solve many of our nation’s problems, there is still hope for improving the state of our nation by simply having faith. Businesses should have faith that hiring more workers will not make their companies lose their profitability but make them more productive. Individuals should have faith that even if they are having a hard time finding work that there is help available to them. Whether it is family, a local church, or a charitable organization, there is help available to those in need. In closing, all I have to say is have faith, live within your means, and don’t depend on things that are proven to be unreliable and unsustainable.
